S2E02 - Special Episode - Young Adult Carers tell their stories
Hi and welcome to POD-CACHE, the portable CPD and best practice podcast from CACHE, presented by Dawn Newman - Editor of www.CACHEAlumni.org.uk, the free professional membership network for those working in Care, Early Years and Education.
This week's episode is a little different. Instead of an interview, Dawn attended an event in Newcastle, where Young Adult Carers shared their stories and talked frankly and passionately about the difficult and isolating role of caring for friends or family.
This episode might be difficult listening for some of our audience and we urge caution when listening. Please look after yourself and take a break if you need to. We equally believe that it's important to understand the real challenges faced by those we support as social workers, teachers, health workers and members of a community, so we'll be releasing this series over a few different episodes, to allow the speakers to tell their story uncut.
If you're affected by any of the issues raised in this episode, please contact your local carers' association. Newcastle Carers are the (incredible) organisation who support the carers you hear here, but each local authority should be able to signpost to local support.
If you would like to join CACHE Alumni, the association for professional caregivers, you can find us at www.cachealumni.org.uk.
Membership is free and you'll find lots more examples of best practice, great sector insight and opinion from subject specialists across Care, Education and Early Years.
You can find Newcastle carers online at https://www.newcastlecarers.org.uk and on Twitter as @NCLCarers.
You can follow Dawn on Twitter at @DawnConnieM and on LinkedIn as Dawn Constance Mulvaney for information and updates about CACHEAlumni.org.uk.
Dawn is planning to take part it the Great North Swim in June, to raise money for Newcastle Carers. You can sponsor her two-mile open water swim here;

Until next time.... Take care.
