S2E13 - POD-CACHE goes to WellFEst Part 3 - Mark Child and Amanda McKay
Hi and welcome to POD-CACHE, the portable CPD and best practice podcast from CACHE, presented by Dawn Newman - Editor of www.CACHEAlumni.org.uk, the award-winning professional membership network available free for those working in Care, Health and Education.
In this special episode of POD-CACHE, recorded as part of the WellFEst event in summer 2020, Mark Child and Amanda McKay talk about being part of the LGBTQ community.
Mark described his experience of coming out and the responses he received from family, friends and colleagues – some of which refused to work with him or speak to him again – all for just being himself. This is the motivation for the of “Just being me” campaign being developed by Mark and his passion for ensuring better acceptance and workplace support exists for the LGBTQ community.
We then heard from Amanda, who gave a detailed story of her journey with transitioning from Martin to Amanda. Amanda transitioned later in life but always felt from the young age of 7 that she was destined to be female and chose the name Amanda at the age of 8.
Amanda is passionate about providing a voice to the trans community and works with a range of groups and volunteering roles to support trans people, particularly in the engineering sector.
